While electrical panels are designed to operate for a very long time, they do have a lifespan. In many cases, that lifespan may be around 30 years. Over time, internal components can weaken, and certain panel brands have been recalled or are considered uninsurable.

Examples of panels that are often flagged include:

  • Federal Pacific (FPE) panels
  • Challenger panels
  • Older fuse-style panels

Insurance companies may refuse coverage for some of these panels, even if they appear to be functioning.

A panel replacement or full service change is not just about swapping equipment. There are several additional factors that must be evaluated and addressed. The key differences depend on whether the property is:

  • A standalone single-family home
  • A multi-family dwelling (more than two units)
  • A condominium
  • A condominium

Each type of structure has different requirements, clearances, and infrastructure considerations. Proper evaluation before beginning work is critical to ensure everything is completed safely and up to current standards.
